Five Writing Competitions to enter before the end of the year

In order to celebrate my recent competition win (more about that next week!) I thought I’d share some more writing competitions to enter for the remainder of the year!

Get writing - you've got to be in it to win it!

Get writing – you’ve got to be in it to win it!

SASH Writing Competition
Entry Fee: min. £10 donation
Deadline: 10th October 2014
The aim is to raise awareness of youth homelessness in the UK and raise funds for SASH. With a theme of ‘homelessness’ requested and 3,000 words to write your story in any genre, the top 20 entries will be published in an anthology. The top three entries will be granted a free night’s stay in York prior to attending an Awards Ceremony on the 30th January 2015 alongside the runners-up. The top prize, however, is a residential writing course courtesy of the Arvon Foundation.

Rubery Short Story Competition
Entry Fee:
£7.50
Deadline: 31st October 2014
Stories should be double spaced, pages consecutively numbered and should only be printed on one side of the paper if not submitted electronically. Your name should not appear on your short story. They prefer postal entries but electronic entries are perfectly acceptable. There is a 3000 word limit and prizes are £600, £100 and £50.

Museum of Words International Flash Fiction Contest
Entry Fee: FREE
Deadline: 23rd November 2014
This 100 word story competition is open to writers internationally with entries permitted in Hebrew, English, Arabic or Spanish. The microfiction entry must not have been published in any format but may be on any subject. There is a first prize of $20,000 and three runner up prizes of $2,000.

Inktears International Short Story Competition
Entry Fee:
£6
Deadline: 30th November 2014
Entries must be between 1,000 to 3,500 words on any theme and, unlike many other competitions, can have been published elsewhere – providing the copyright still sits with the author and there are no exclusivity rights. Submissions can only be made online and there are six prizes: £1,000 for the winner, £100 for a runner-up and four highly commended entries receive £25.

Green Lady Award for Fiction
Entry Fee
: £5
Deadline: 30th November 2014
The Award is for outstanding fiction from new and upcoming writers on the theme of ‘resistance’. They’re looking for innovative interpretations up to 3,00o words. Those chosen will form part of an anthology for the Green Lady Press launch and up to 3 entries are permitted per author. There is also a prize of £50 for first place and £25 for 2nd place.

Good luck with any submissions you make – feel free to add any more links to other competitions in the comments.
